Most people think of chiropractic treatments mainly for low back pain. At Accurate Care Pain Relief Center, I treat neck pain quite frequently. I find that Neck Pain and Chiropractic are a perfect fit. For those who may be new to Chiropractic, I find the Cox Decompression Technic works the best for them.
As mentioned in my website, there is no ‘cracking or popping’ of the spine with Cox Decompression. As the doctor, I gently place my hands on the neck area, apply gentle traction, and very slowly, flex the head-piece of the table just a couple of inches to actually open the areas of the spinal vertebrae that may be compressed and pressing on painful nerves. This is a general explanation of course, but it’s the best way to describe this gentle, highly researched, scientifically proven technique.
While most neck pain causes are generally unknown, what is known, is specific treatments for it. For those patients who suffer from numbness of the hands, tingling of fingers, or weakness of hands and grip, Cox Decompression is very effective. Most patients feel even slight relief even after the first treatment! By relieving pressure on the nerves that are compressed, better function of those nerves can occur. Compression of any nerve in the body may lead to dysfunction of the area the nerve is designed to innervate. You can think of the spinal cord like an electrical breaker box in your home. Should you go into your kitchen in the morning, and find that all of the appliances on the right side of your kitchen are not working, you don’t call a repair service, you go straight to the breaker box, to flip the breaker back on. A functioning breaker switch allows the electrical wires to conduct electricity properly. When the breaker ‘switched off’ it was a sign that something was wrong with the electrical system, possibly an overload to that system. As A Chiropractic Physician, I render a Chiropractic Manipulation to the spine. This is like flipping the breaker back on to allow the nerves to work properly. Pain in the spine, like neck or back pain, is the body’s way of telling you that there is something wrong with your nervous system, similar to the electrical overload I described with the breaker box.
I mentioned earlier that Cox Decompression is highly researched. It is also frequently federally funded. The latest research project involves the NIH awarding a $2.8 million grant back in 2008.to carry out three research projects: “Upper Cervical Manipulation for Patients With Stage I Hypertension,” “Conservative Treatment of Patients With Temporomandibular (TMJ) Disorders: A Pilot Study,” and the Cox distraction project, funded through May 2012.
My patients who undergo Cox Decompression for neck pain in my office, generally report relief much faster than those who receive traditional Chiropractic Manipulations. Even many child patients prefer this technique over the traditional manipulation. See Brandon C’s video under child testimonials on my website.
