Last, but definitely NOT LEAST, are probiotics. These include acidophilus, lactobacillus, and many others. These improve intestinal health by building the immune system. They strengthen the body’s natural defenses to the flu virus and other culprits. A gut that is over-ridden by bad ‘bugs’ cannot defend the body against these invaders. Consuming too much sugar, junk food, alcohol, and antibiotics (also found in most meats and animal feeds now) will cause the gut to promote the bad bugs, and therefore overcome the good ones. There are also countless immune markers in the gut that are greatly affected by this imbalance. There now exists some evidence that supports a healthy gut and cancer prevention! Remember to include probiotics in your immune-building regime, or you’re leaving out the basis for the body’s ability to maintain the health you’re trying to build! Also, ALWAYS use a product that’s manufacturer GUARANTEES the billion count written on the bottle. Medical grade probiotics are always the best. A common mistake people make is choosing one with a larger ‘billion count’ over another. Although that’s good, what more important, is the coating on the capsule. If the probiotics are broken down by stomach acids, they’re not going to make it to the gut where they HAVE to be absorbed. Another mistake is trusting that eating yogurt is enough. It’s not. Also once sugar is added to it, the probiotics are basically useless.
